Our nursery at Douglas Gardens is a small nursery with big opportunities!!! Known as Edinburgh’s “little gem”, it’s a small and homely nursery accommodating only 12 children per session, giving it the best child/staff ratio, at 1 to 3 across all age groups.
Being a small nursery allows us to tailor the daily activities dependant on the children’s interests, and we encourage the children to use their imagination and be creative. Being situated near the National Galleries and the Water of Leith we also have daily opportunities for local walks in the community. In the nursery we have core resources available continuously and activities such as creative arts, constructions areas, role play as well as cosy story corners. We believe learning is enriched with quality resources and that natural elements promote creativity over plastic toys and help develop their fine motor skills through imaginative play.
We have 2 main rooms in the nursery and although our garden area is small, it is well equipped with a mud kitchen and investigation area. We also boast a secret garden room, often named by the children as the ‘den’ which has a large indoor sand and water play area. The 2 main rooms in the nursery are:
Daisy’s Music Time – We understand the importance of music to children’s brain development and that’s why this lively activity is provided by Chapter One Childcare at no additional cost.
Jo Jingles – This exciting and interactive activity mixes music, singing and movement to stimulate imagination and develop language and communication skills
