Our nursery at Douglas Gardens is a small and homely nursery accommodating 12 children per session, with a high child / staff ratio.

Being a small nursery allows us to tailor the daily activities dependant on the children’s interests, and we encourage the children to use their imagination and be creative. Being situated near the National Galleries and the Water of Leith we also have daily opportunities for local walks in the community. In the nursery we have core resources available continuously and activities such as creative arts, constructions areas, role play as well as cosy story corners. We believe learning is enriched with quality resources and that natural elements promote creativity over plastic toys and help develop their fine motor skills through imaginative play.

All childcare vouchers are accepted including tax free childcare.

We are in partnership with Edinburgh Council to provide funded pre-school places.

Facilities

We have 2 main rooms in the nursery and although our garden area is small, it is well equipped with a mud kitchen and investigation area. We also boast a secret garden room, often named by the children as the ‘den’ which has a large indoor sand and water play area. The 2 main rooms in the nursery are:

Bouncing Bunnies – This room is for the younger children at approx. 3 months to 2 years and is designed to stimulate and inspire their learning in a fun and exciting way.

Little Lambs & Wise Owls – Our second room has 2 groups: Little Lambs, which cares for children approx. 2 to 3 years and the Wise Owls, which cares for children aged approx. 3 to 5 years.

Extra Curricular Activities

We want every child to have the skills, confidence and motivation to be active and healthy through, sport, dance and music, so we also offer the following extra-curricular activities:

Acoustic Music Time – Music plays an important part of baby and childcare development and has been linked to brain development, particularly language and reading skills. Music Time is currently delivered by a qualified, professional musicians and is free for all children.

Jo Jingles – This exciting and interactive activity mixes music, singing and movement to stimulate imagination and develop language and communication skills

Boogiebeats – The award winning Zoe runs this fantastic music and movement class. Using traditional stories and fairy tales, she helps the children express themselves as well as learn key skills
